Management Information Systems

The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems combines core business courses with computer science. The program provides students with the skill set used in information systems, including:

  • project management
  • networks
  • web development
  • database management

Students gain an understanding of networks and security along with systems design and analysis. They gain skills in web applications and development as well as data design and data mining. Courses required for the program include:

In addition to core courses for the degree, students must take general education courses along with religious electives and a philosophy/morals course. A practicum and internship are also required to complete the degree.

Healthcare Management MBA

The Master of Business in Healthcare Management is designed for those who already work in the field of healthcare or who wish to advance into leadership roles in the healthcare field. The program includes 11 courses as well as a two-hour introductory course. Students may transfer up to nine hours of graduate level healthcare coursework that is management related as long as they are approved by the Director of Graduate Business Programs. Transfer credits from other graduate programs are not accepted. Courses required for the program include:

  • Current Issues in Healthcare Management
  • Epidemiology
  • Financial and Accounting Considerations in Healthcare Management
  • Healthcare Marketing
  • Healthcare Research and Information Technology
  • Human and Legal Aspects of Healthcare Management
  • Introduction to Healthcare Management
  • Public Health Policy Considerations
  • Strategic Planning and Management of Healthcare Systems
  • Supply Chain and Project Management of Healthcare Systems

A Capstone project is also required. Students choose one of three options that tie together important concepts from the curriculum including:

  • a working marketing plan
  • a case study of an existing healthcare organization and competitive analysis in healthcare organizations
  • or a functioning three-year business plan

Students may also choose to create a complete set of operating policies for a non-profit healthcare facility.

About Christian Brothers University

Christian Brothers University was founded in 1871 by members of the Institute of the Brothers of Christian Schools. It was their vision to establish an institute of higher learning based in Catholic education in Memphis, Tennessee. In addition, the Brothers wanted to establish elementary and secondary education was based on Catholic beliefs.

For more than a decade, clergy in the area had tried to establish Catholic education in Memphis. When the Memphis Female College closed, it opened up property that could be used to establish a school. However, it was the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 that made the founding of the new school possible. The Brothers’ Academy in Chicago was destroyed in the fire and some of the Brothers who now needed duties transferred to Memphis.

The school struggled initially as Tennessee slowly recovered from the Civil War. Yellow fever and financial difficulties also took their toll on the fledging school, placing them in debt. The financial Panic of 1873 almost ended the school completely. In addition, the teaching of Latin was prohibited in the United States and, although the Brothers objected, they only taught modern languages. Initially, the school offered education to young men from elementary school through college. During World War I, enrollment dropped significantly. Christian Brothers College stopped awarding college degrees in 1915. In 1922, elementary education was dropped and the school offered only high school programs.

During the Great Depression, enrollment grew and the school merged with St. Agnes Academy. A fundraising effort succeeded in raising enough to purchase land on East Parkway. In 1940, they moved to the current campus. A junior college opened in 1942 but the entire school was forced to close when enrollment plummeted due to World War II. It reopened in 1947. Over half of the student body were veterans taking advantage of the G.I. Bill. The school became a four-year college in 1953. In 1970, women were accepted into the school.

Christian Brothers University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. This indicates to parents, students, and employers that graduates of the university are well-prepared for leadership roles in their field of study. The university also agrees to a periodic review by the Association to confirm that they have the resources necessary to meet their goals and objectives. Students who have not attended college after high school graduation must complete either the school’s online application or the Common Application. Students must provide official high school transcripts as well as official ACT or SAT scores. Programs may have specific admissions requirements so it is important to speak to an enrollment counselor before applying. Students who have earned college credit after high school graduation must complete either application and provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.

Graduate applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Christian Brothers University Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergraduate tuition for full-time study is $15,950 and for part-time study $1,135. Graduate tuition per credit hour is as follows:

More than 90 percent of undergraduate students received some type of financial assistance to attend Christian Brothers University. Tennessee residents may also qualify for the Tennessee Educational Lottery Scholarship Program. In addition, students may qualify for loans as part of their financial assistance. It is important to remember that loans must be repaid after graduation. In order to qualify for any financial assistance, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which must be renewed each year.
