Initially founded in 1967, Brookdale Community College is a fully accredited two-year public co-educational institution with an open admissions policy to serve over 14,100 students annually. From its main suburban headquarters in Lincroft within New Jersey’s Monmouth County, BCC operates satellite locations in Neptune, Freehold Township, Hazlet, Long Beach, Wall Township, and online from anywhere for a total of over 55 career-oriented programs. Brookdale participates in the NJ Coastal Communiversity for seamless transfers too. The Health Sciences Institute is devoted to preparing competent healthcare professionals for dental hygiene, fitness training, health information technology, nursing, radiologic technology, and respiratory therapy.

A.A.S. Health Information Technology

Leading to an Associate of Applied Science, the A.A.S. Health Information Technology program at Brookdale is formally accredited by the CAHIIM to prepare students with the requisite skills for organizing, maintaining, and evaluating electronic health records in the 21st century. Students are trained with the professional know-how to code patients’ critical medical data for insurance billing and improved care. Within the 61-credit program, students can enroll in traditional face-to-face or convenient online coursework. Clinical practicum will require at least 40 hours of applied experience at a licensed healthcare facility though. Brookdale has an outstanding track record of success with 100% of graduates being employed in the HIM field.

Burlington Community College

Nursing and Allied Health Division

Headquartered on a main suburban campus in Pemberton Township with extension centers in Mount Holly, Mount Laurel, and Willingboro, Burlington Community College is an accredited two-year public state-supported institution. Since opening its doors in 1969, BCC has grown to enroll more than 4,800 full-time and 4,600 part-time students in career-oriented associate’s degree, certificate, and transfer programs. Within the Nursing and Allied Health (NAH) Division, students can receive high-quality training to learn the proper theory and hone practical patient-relation skills for clinical success.

Health Information Technology (AAS.HIT)

Ideal for students looking to take the RHIT examination, the Health Information Technology (AAS.HIT) is a two-year associate’s degree program at BCC that provides specialized career training in maintaining, collecting, analyzing, and securing patient data in the in-demand medical industry. Students work through a rigorous CAHIIM-accredited curriculum of 68 total credits to master the skills needed for administering electronic health record systems. Most of the program can be completed online from a distance, but certain required courses will be offered in a traditional classroom or hybrid format. Professional practice experience will be gained at a hospital, physician office, long-term care facility, or clinic. Starting in Fall 2015, there will be Cancer Registry Management (AAS.MCR) program available too.

Health Information Technology Department

Enrolling more than 19,900 students in credit courses, Camden County College is a public two-year co-educational institution offering both liberal arts and technical training from its main 320-acre suburban campus in Blackwood within just 14 miles from Philadelphia. Highly regarded as one of New Jersey’s largest community colleges, CCC has successfully trained over 325,000 professionals since opening in 1967. The Health Information Technology Department houses an associate’s degree and certificate program for aspiring HIM leaders seeking to better understand the cutting-edge technology applications running electronic health records.

A.A.S. in Health Information Technology

The A.A.S. in Health Information Technology program is granted for CCC students seeking to build a strong foundation for a professional healthcare career in gathering, storing, and abstracting key patient data from complex computer record keeping systems. Health Information Department

Since the 1970s, Passaic County Community College has been a premier accredited two-year public career institute offering associate’s degrees, diplomas, and certificates in a breadth of fields. With an enrollment of over 13,000 diverse students, PCCC has state-of-the-art facilities located on its main urban campus in Paterson as well as its extension centers in Wanaque, Passaic, and Wayne. Boasting a 100% RHIT exam pass rate, the Health Information Department has the mission of producing qualified allied health specialists with the ability to keep data secure.

AAS Degree in Health Information Technology

With full approval from the CAHIIM, the AAS Degree in Health Information Technology was created by PCCC to equip undergraduate students with the fundamental knowledge for collecting, evaluating, and utilizing information critical to the healthcare industry’s infrastructure. Students progress through a dynamic program of study that mixes general education with professional coursework and clinical practice at local hospitals. HIT majors focus on building entry-level competence in information protection, informatics, data analytics, revenue management, regulatory compliance, and leadership. Health Science Education Department

First founded in 1965 as New Jersey’s first college sponsored by two different counties, Raritan Valley Community College is a fully accredited co-educational junior public institution enrolling more than 7,800 students mostly from Somerset and Hunterdon counties. With an open admissions policy, RVCC educates students in over 90 academic programs at the associate’s and certificate levels from its main campus in the Branchburg Township. In the Health Science Education Department, students can select from quality career-oriented programs in nursing, exercise science, health science, health information technology, dental assisting, dietary management, occupational therapy, and respiratory care.

Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Technology

Designed to qualify health information technicians with the capacity to effectively control the use and release of private electronic health records, the Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Technology (HIT) program at RVCC consists of 63 total credits. Over four semesters, students will explore coursework in biology, healthcare delivery, medical terminology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, medical coding, computer literacy, statistics, health ethics, psychology, reimbursement, data reporting, and organizational resource management. The CAHIIM-accredited curriculum also includes two summer practicum experiences for applying learned skills in the field. Graduates will be prepared for immediate entry-level employment or continuing education with significant transferable credits. 100% of HIT students pass the RHIT certification exam their first time.
