MBA in Healthcare Management at Walsh University

Walsh University offers a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management through the DeVille School of Business. The program is designed to provide a balance between business know-how and the distinctive characteristics and demands of the healthcare industry. The program is offered both on-campus and online and requires the completion of 36 semester hours. The curriculum includes MBA core courses and concentration courses in healthcare management. The core courses include sustainable ethical leadership, marketing, financial accounting and management, organizational behavior and communication, information systems, and applied organizational research and analysis. The specialty courses include quality and performance management, legal and policy aspect healthcare, healthcare organization and systems, and healthcare finance and economics.

After completion of the coursework, students must complete the MBA Leadership Experience Practicum. The practicum is connected to the mission of the university in helping students become leaders in service to others. During the MBA program, students may also take part in the global experiences where students travel abroad to complete business courses and gain international experience. Upon completion of the program, graduates will have the ability to think critically and solve issues within healthcare organizations. They will demonstrate effective leadership abilities and incorporate professional and personal knowledge within a complex international business environment.

Walsh University, often called Walsh, is a private, nonprofit institution of higher learning residing in North Canton, Ohio. It is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church and focuses on the liberal arts and sciences. Walsh University offers over 65 majors and seven graduate programs through five schools of education. Byers School of Nursing, DeVille School of Business, School of Arts and Sciences, School of Behavioral and Health Sciences, and Division of Education. The faculty is highly experienced and comes from all over the world to provide students with a global perspective driven by faith. Students participate in on-site training, service learning, internships, and student teaching activities. Volunteer work is also a requirement of the core curriculum of all programs.

The university creates an environment that promotes students to interact closely with instructors. The student to faculty ratio at Walsh is 15 to one, with 75 percent of classes with fewer than 20 students.

Walsh University was established in 1960 as Walsh College by the Brothers of Christian Instruction as a liberal arts institution providing education to young men. It began with programs in business administration and secondary education and pre-professional programs in medicine, law, and dentistry. The college was named after Most Reverend Emmet Walsh, the Bishop of the Youngstown Diocese. The Brothers played a major role in the university throughout its history, such as serving as faculty and presidents, and assisting with the development and growth of programs and facilities.

The college officially became Walsh University in 1993. Today, Walsh University is home to nearly 3,000 students from 40 states and 40 countries. The enrollment has grown 80 percent since the year 2002. The U.S. News and World Report ranks Walsh University number 64 in its Regional Universities Midwest publication and number 76 in its Best Value Schools publication.
