Florida Institute of Technology was founded in 1958 as Brevard Engineering College, the same year as NASA was getting started. The college offered academic opportunities to NASA professionals at Cape Canaveral. By 1960, the college had more than 500 students. In 1964, the college received its first accreditation report. In 1966, the college’s name changed to Florida Institute of Technology to more accurately represent the character of the institution. The institute continued to expand, adding more:
