Health Information Technology Associate of Applied Science Degree

Once the exam is passed successfully, the student will be a registered health information technologist.

Health Care Department

The Health Care Department at Scott Community College is a community centered program that focuses on meeting the needs of the local population when it comes to schooling. Students who go into the health information technology program to earn their A.A.S. will find that they are ready for a job as a health information technician when they complete the program. They will learn a number of skills and concepts including the ability to maintain and use medical records, how to be an effective administrator and how to ensure the patient’s privacy is a top priority. Interaction between the students and faculty is a main goal of this program and most faculty members have worked in the field and can bring their real-world experience to the classroom.

In order to be a success with this program, students will need to take a total of 70 credit hours made up of health information technology curriculum. Typically this takes two full years of study. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the national certification exam.
