Health Informatics Programs in Alaska are available for students interested in obtaining a great education while experiencing a bit of adventure on the way to a great career.

Alaska is also known for is its outstanding educational opportunities. These include the chance to earn an Associate in Applied Science in health information management from the University of Alaska Southeast.

School of Career Education

The School of Career Education at the University of Alaska Southeast focuses on the needs of their students, including both the short-term training and long-term:

  • vocational
  • occupational
  • technical needs

The programs, including the health information management program, provide students with the skills needed for immediate employment in their chosen fields. The programs also prepare students for professional advancement and lifelong learning. The school ensures that the latest technology, information and best practices are used throughout the course instruction. It offers a number of diploma and degree options. The goal of the School of Career Education is to get students out in the workforce quickly with the knowledge they need to succeed.

Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Management

The associate degree that can be earned in health information management is available after a two-year program. This is the only CAHIIM accredited program for health information management in the state of Alaska. Upon graduation, students will be prepared to take the RHIT national exam. Most of the coursework for this program is delivered online. This gives students a chance to learn at their own pace. Courses will teach students the basics such as coding and medical terminology. In addition to that, there are more advanced subjects like:

  • pathophysiology
  • healthcare privacy
  • learning the legal requirements of healthcare information

Students will also be required to complete an internship before receiving their degree. In total, there are 60 credits needed to complete the AAS degree requirements.

Since 1993, the School of Career Education at the University of Alaska Southeast has been preparing students for a career in health information management. The training program is highly respected.  Students are well prepared to enter into the workplace following their studies. There are other ways that a student can learn about health information management. However, the AAS program at the University of Alaska Southeast is the only program that remains accredited in the state. Students consistently receive the highest level of education when they attend the University of Alaska Southeast for health informatics programs in Alaska.
