Healthcare suffers from a critical shortage of qualified practitioners and support personnel. Its chronic deficiencies are becoming increasingly urgent due to trends toward higher quality and lower cost. These movements have induced radical paradigm shifts to emphasis on healthcare administration. After all, it calls for outstanding oversight to manage maximum efficiency with minimum resources. Those up to the challenge should pay attention to the following details about educational opportunities in the “Peach State”, better known as Georgia.
Armstrong Atlantic State University (“AASU”)
College of Health Professions (“CHP”)
Students in CHP programs enjoy the best of both academic worlds. Although Georgia’s biggest undergrad health educational facility, CHP features very small classes. It deliberately does so to maintain a low student/faculty ratio. This furthers its mission to improve general health and wellbeing in culturally diverse communities through healthcare education that emphasizes practice that is:
- evidence-based
- compassionate
- team-oriented
Master of Health Services Administration (“MHSA”)
This MHSA program has a stated learning objective of enabling students to master theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills essential to competent administration of healthcare service organizations throughout all patient care. To advance that agenda, it places special emphases various aspects of healthcare delivery:
- legal
- economic
- manageria
- organizational
The goal is to prepare well-qualified, culturally diverse student bodies for positions of leadership in healthcare administration. As such, all components of its 53-credit curriculum are constructed on common bases of:
- competency
- contemporariness
- student-centricity
Accreditation
The MSHA at AASU is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation Healthcare Management Education (“CAHME”). It is a full member of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (“AUPHA”).

Georgia State University (“GSU”)
J. Mack Robinson College of Business
Institute of Health Administration
GSU’s Institute of Health Administration is internationally-renowned for the outstanding contributions of its:
- large alumni base
- high educational quality
- extensive research activities
This comes as no surprise, considering the impressive accomplishments of its organizational parent COB. IHA has a departmental mission of providing:
- high-quality graduate education
- career development
- research in healthcare management and administration
Master of Science in Health Administration Program (“MSHA”)
In keeping with its fine institutional history, the MSHA program at GSU ranks highly as among the 2011 Best Graduate Health Administration Program listings by U.S. News & World Reports. This program offers seven different MSHA Concentrations, including:
• Clinical Management
• Finance
• Human Resource Management
• Health Informatics
• Managerial Sciences
• Marketing
• Risk Management and Insurance
MSHA students in all Concentrations must complete 36 credits comprised of:
• Foundation courses – 3 classes
• Health Administration Core courses – 24 credits in 8 classes
• Concentration courses – 12 credits in 4 classes
In response to increasing regulatory and legal juxtapositions with healthcare landscapes, MSHA program administrators recently joined forces with GSU’s School of Law. The goal was to devise a dual JD/MSHA degree program. Their educational brainchild was conceived to expedite the process of earning both credentials. Its key to success is curricular acceleration via cross-crediting coursework.
Accreditation
The MSHA program at GSU holds full CAHME accreditation and AUPHA membership.
